What's the maximum weight allowed?
The permissible maximum overall weight comprising rider, luggage, and bicycle should not exceed 110 kg.

The lights on the Equal bike are fully StVZO certified as required by German law. If you live outside of Germany and never heard of StVZO certification, all you need to know is that our lights are top-notch.
Is there a display to show speed and battery level?
We wanted to keep the bike look clean and minimalist. That's why we got rid of unnecessary components on a handlebar, like display or shifters. If you want to see your speed, battery level, or any other info during the ride, feel free to use the mobile app. Additionally, we will offer phone mounts as an optional accessory.
How do you turn the bike on/off?
There's a power button on the top tube. Press this button once to turn the bike on/off.
How do you turn the lights on/off?

What type of warranty do you offer?
The Equal bike comes with a legal warranty of two years, covering all original components against defects in workmanship and materials.
How can I maintain the Equal bike?
Most of the components in our bikes are standard. Hence maintaining the Equal is almost identical to maintaining your regular bicycle. Any typical bicycle shop can do professional bike maintenance, and we recommend scheduling one at least once a year. Additionally, remember to regularly clean it, check the tires and brakes, lube the chain, and tighten the bolts. This way, your bike will serve you for years.

Electric Drive
What drivetrain is being used in the Equal bike?
Our bike is a single speed, and the motor assistance automatically adapts to your riding.
What is adaptive motor assistance?
The Equal senses your efforts while pedaling. And whenever it sees that you are stressing out, for example, when accelerating or fighting hills and headwinds, the motor automatically does all the hard work for you. No need to switch gears or assist levels.
How does it feel like?
Like a regular cycling, only with support. Due to automatic and intuitive assist, you'll cycle stress-free as if there were no hills or headwinds on your route.
Does it come with a throttle?
No, there's no throttle. The motor activates only when you are pedaling.
How does the bike sense my efforts while riding?
The Equal comes with a torque sensor that measures how fast and how hard you are pedaling. Essentially, this sensor works as a power meter. The bike then analyzes the cycling data and automatically adjusts the motor assistance.
What are the main benefits of such adaptive assistance?
Firstly, the bike is easy to use. All you need to do is just pedal without worrying about shifting gears or assist levels. Secondly, adaptive assistance makes riding feel very natural. Lastly, by getting rid of unnecessary gear shifters or displays, we keep the look clean and simplify the maintenance.
What type of motor do you use?
The Equal bike has a 250 W brushless DC rear hub motor. It complies with all European regulations, which means that our bike is fully street-legal in the European Union.
Why the hub motor?
Hub motors perfectly suit urban commuting. They are quiet, lightweight, stealthy, and require less maintenance when compared, for example, to mid-drive motors.
What is the top speed?
In the European Union, the pedal-assist electric bike speed limit is 25 km/h. The same applies to Equal bike, which assists you up to 25 km/h. However, you can still ride faster, but only on your muscle power.
Is there any resistance when riding without motor support?
When the battery is empty, or your speed exceeds the 25 km/h, there is no rolling resistance from the motor — all due to an integrated freewheel. Hence, riding the Equal without motor assistance feels just like riding a regular bicycle.
How quiet is the motor?
When riding, you will barely hear any noise coming from the motor.
How easy is it to change the rear tire?
You'll need to unplug the motor cable at the chainstay side and then remove the wheel. It's that simple.
Battery
What is the range on a single charge?
On average, our battery allows you to travel 50 km on a single charge. The exact range depends on many factors, e.g., weather, rider's weight, terrain, assistance settings, etc.
Where is the battery?
The battery sits inside the top tube of the frame. When installed, it is invisible and well protected from external influences. The great news is you can easily remove it for charging.
Is my battery securely locked inside?
Yes, our proprietary clamping device has an integrated locking mechanism, meaning no one will be able to remove the battery without a key.
How can I check the battery level?
One way to check the battery level is to use the mobile app. Alternatively, you can long-press the power button for about 4 seconds, and the rear light will indicate the current state of charge.
How do I remove the battery for charging?
Unlock the clamping device, open the cover, raise the saddle, and pull out the battery.
Do I need to adjust the saddle position each time I remove the battery?
No, there's a special ring on the seat post, which saves you saddle height and alignment, meaning all you need to do is lower the saddle until the ring matches the seat tube's upper surface. We've tried our best to make the battery removal process as easy and convenient as possible.
How do I charge the battery?
Insert the battery into a dock station, and it will automatically start charging. You'll notice the diodes on the tail side of the battery showing the current charge level. As soon as the battery is fully charged, all diodes will glow green.
Can I charge the battery without removing it from the bike?
Yes, we've thought of that too! If you store the bike inside and have a power outlet nearby, you don't necessarily need to remove the battery for charging. Simply connect a separate extension cable to the dock station and directly to the bike. And you are good to go!
What are the benefits of the dock station over a standard e-bike charger?
We believe that a dock station makes charging the battery easier since you don't need to bend over and mess with cables. Also, it takes less space in your apartment, and overall looks cooler (but that's a matter of taste, of course).
How long does it take for a full charge?
Charging the battery takes up to 3,5 hours for a full charge.
What's the battery lifetime?
Battery lifetime is around 600 full charging cycles, which corresponds to approximately 30,000 km. After that, the battery will still have about 70% of its original capacity.
What happens if I run out of battery?
Once the battery goes flat, you can continue riding the Equal bike just as if it was a regular bicycle. Thanks to an integrated freewheel inside the motor, you won't feel any resistance when pedaling without motor support.
Can I ride the Equal bike without a battery?
Yes, but it will ride just like a regular bicycle. You won't have any motor support.
Can I ride the Equal bike during the winter?
Yes, you can ride even when it's freezing outside. However, do not leave the battery outdoors for long since it may temporarily affect its capacity and range. We advise storing the battery/bike indoors at room temperature.
Can I ride the Equal bike in the rain?
Yes, all electronic components are hidden and sealed inside the frame. Additionally, the motor is IP65 rated, so you can safely ride Equal bike even during heavy rain.
Can I buy extra battery/charger?
Sure, spare batteries and other parts & accessories will be available for purchase closer to the start of the deliveries.
Mobile App
Is there a mobile app?
Yes, the Equal bike comes with an associated mobile app for iOS and Android. Its main functionality includes:
- dashboard to display essential info during the ride, e.g., speed and range;
- trips history to check details about your previous rides;
- settings to configure the bike;
- firmware updates;
- direct support channel.
Can I use the bike without a smartphone?
Sure, you can ride the bike without using the app. To turn the bike on/off, simply press the power button.
When will the app be available?
The app is currently under development, and we will release it before shipping the bikes. If you would like to be a beta tester, please email us at hello@equal.bike
